This may be unrelated but the brake squeals every time the tub stops and has been doing this long before this new problem surfaced.

Maytag Atlantis soap suds after rinse |

MAV8000- about 8 years old Soap suds remain in the clothes after the rinse cycle. Sometimes the clothes are kind of wet too. The problem is intermittent. The
belt and drive pulleys are in great shape. I've verified that plenty of water is being provided during the rinse/spin cycle. As for spin speed, it seems
plenty fast once it gets going but I can hold the tub in place easily and stop it from spinning.

Hi,
MAV8000That is part of a full model#. old Soap suds remain in the clothes after the rinse cycleSoap retension or soap built up in the clothes is most common. Never hurts to rince the washer out once in a while with a hot wash. Checking for soap retension in the clothes... http://www.applianceaid.com/whiting.html Sometimes the clothes are kind of wet too. The problem is intermittentIintermittent probelms are the worst! Poor drain, hanging up brake, worn thrust bearing and pulley, tranny are common for slow or poor spins. http://www.applianceaid.com/norgewash.html#info This may be unrelated but the brake squeals every time the tub stops and has been doing this long before this new problem surfacedThat is a common problem http://www.applianceaid.com/norgewash.html#brake |

Full model number- MAV8000AWW Thanks for the reply. The soap residue is in the form of suds, not flakes. This is different than the "whiting"
mentioned in your link. It seems like an incomplete rinse. How can I check the thrust bearing? The tub moves freely by hand and doesn't make any abnormal
sounds. I would have expected it to be stiff/noisy if the bearing were bad. "I can hold the tub in place easily and stop it from spinning." Does this
indicate a weak clutch or transmission problem? Is it normal to be able to do this? How about the pivot spring? The belt tension is very loose until the motor
kicks on. Is this normal?

It seems like an incomplete rinse. No such a thing....rince is just a fill, agitation and drain out with out adding soap. Wash is a fill, agitation and drain out with adding soap/detergant. There is suppose to be soap in the rince cycle. Rince is to help remove soap from the fabric before the final spin. A build up in the clothes causes excess or too much soap and we get left over at the end of the cycle. Clothes can absorrb so much soap, the water can absorb so much soap and the extra is waste and is what causes problems. How can I check the thrust bearing?Normally remove it and inspect. If worn, burnt or not pushing on the brake enough to release the brake and we try a new thrust bearing kit. The tub moves freely by hand and doesn't make any abnormal sounds. I would have expected it to be stiff/noisy if the bearing were bad.No bearing(s) involved in the basket assy to move, there is a snubber pad between the base and the basket assy. I can hold the tub in place easily and stop it from spinning." Does this indicate a weak clutch or transmission problem?Normal and neither. How about the pivot spring? The 6 suspension springs? The belt tension is very loose until the motor kicks on. Is this normal?Yes, motor moves on the track to tighten or loosen the belt as needed. jeff. |

I replaced the thrust bearing, pulley and drive belt but it still has soaps suds after the spin cycle. The break squeal stopped though. I even did the Cascade
and bleach trick. The tub smells better but that's it.
Any other ideas? |

I replaced the thrust bearing, pulley and drive belt but it still has soaps suds after the spin cycleWhich spin? If after the final spin before the off position....fabric softener build up, soap retention in the clothing ( too much soap being used ), cold washes ( esp if the outside temp is very cold ) would be suspect. The machine doesn't add any soap, we do. The washer fills with water, agitates, drains and spins and we add the soap, softners, whitners, brightners, prewash scrub, ect. Have you washed the clothing without any soap? Same results? jeff. |

This occurs after the final spin. We're using about one-half the recommended amount of soap.
It does appear that the soap suds are concentrated on the bottom of the tub...coming up through the holes in the tub. |

We're using about one-half the recommended amount of soapGood...but has anybody washed the clothing with no soap? Normally need to so no soap is left in the fabric and we are starting fresh from sqaure one...once all the soap is out of the clothing then when we start to add the soap st most 1/2 of the recommended amount is used. jeff. |

Ran a load without soap...no soap suds remained. We're adding exactly one half of the recommended soap and we're using the extra rinse cycle. Keep in
mind that the machine has worked fine for the last 4.5 years.

Ran a load without soap...no soap suds remainedGood Often takes 3-6-12 months to slowly build up in our clothes. If an occurance happens again, only thing really left in the washer is a slow/poor drain out.....or drain hose too high.....most top load washers will drain a full load of water out in approx 90 seconds. |

What is the maximum height for the drain hose?
