I'm missing my screws |

Frigidare washer, Model # FTF2140ES3... The door handle broke off for the second time in less than 3 years, so I ordered another... My wife said,
"give me the screws, until the new handle comes, so they won't get lost... They got lost... Do you know what the thread size and length are, so I
can pick up two at the local Ace Hardware??? Thanks...

Thanks! That really helps... 3/4 inch. That's what I needed... This (our third) door is a really "weak" spot on this washer... Self tapping
screws in hard brittle plastic really don't work well... I tried heating the screws first, to make better threads, by melting instead of cutting/cracking
the brittle plastic... Seems to work...

Whirlpool tried that with me too. The handle on my grandfather's fridge broke after about a year and a half. My mother got it for him through a city
program that asks seniors to upgrade their old fridges to more energy efficient models.
So, out with the 1985 Westinghouse and in with this WLP unit. About a year later, the handle broke. $27 to $50 part depending on where you got it. I e-mailed WLP telling them it shouldn't happen. They told me where to buy the part. I then faxed a letter to the WLP CEO telling him of my issue, and whattya know, a new handle showed up in a week's time, WITH a follow-up phone call. As with yours, the screw is threaded into metal without a backing/nutsert, etc, so it's naturally going to loosen over time. Pays twice a year just to snug them to be sure they don't back out on you. Or put a little Loctite to help out the issue perhaps. Either way, I installed the new handle in three minutes time (including going to get a screwdriver from downstairs) and all is well. It's amazing what happens when you contact the top of the organization

Here's my reply to their computer... I'll start the phone process on Monday...
I'm insulted by this. First off; I'm obviously not a "valued customer", since you sold me a product with a defect and can do no better than to say, that you apologize for the inconveniences that we have experienced... The term is, experiencing!! We just spent more money on a fourth door handle and will probably do so until the machine quits... A better handle or credits for the next few replacements, would have shown that someone was at least reading what I wrote, not just a form letter or a response from a computer... I will be posting this correspondence on 3 DIY and repair forums that I regularly use to get and give help... They are already aware that I've had this problem for years and that I finally wrote to Frigidaire about it... In fact I just got an answer post from the moderator that I let them know what I heard from Frigidaire... Rest assured, they'll know the results... |

The best I could do was a free one from Frigidaire... Now I have two spares...
