Coils plugged up with frost, changed everything, still same problem... |

Ok, this is my little story. I bought this Kenmore Coldspot Model 106.59502990. After a while it stop cooling so I removed the evaporator coil cover and they
were totally covered in ice. A technician came and changed both thermostats on the front of the fridge (one for the freezer one for the fridge). He left,
charged $275 and after one week back to the same problem. I called him and he said that I needed to change the adaptive defrost electronic board, around $250.
After some arguing I decided to do some research on the internet. I found out that this kenmore was made by wirpool and ordered a new defrost heater, the
adaptive defrost electronic board, and the defrost thermostat. After getting rid of the ice, I installed all three new parts and everything worked fine for
about another 10 days. Now I am back to the same! I spent like $400 and still the same. Ice on the evaporator coil. One thing I noticed is that even if i spin
the freezer thermostat on the front panel of the fridge all the way counterclockwise to the off position, the compressor won't stop. That doesn't seem
normal. I checked all the connections under the panel and everything seems ok, but the fridge won't turn off. Another thing I noticed is that the
compressor has like a big condenser which is obviously not the original one, instead of having the original relay and overload that I read about on the forums.
I don't know if this could have anything to do with the icing, but I though it would be good to mention it. So I am stuck, I changed almost everything on
this MF and still the same problem. Heeeelpppp!!!!!

Hi,
After a while it stop cooling so I removed the evaporator coil cover and they were totally covered in iceIce or frost? Ice is more like an ice cube and frost is more like snow. Completely covered top to bottom, left to right as well? A technician came and changed both thermostats on the front of the fridge (one for the freezer one for the fridge).Won't help a frost free or ice problem I found out that this kenmore was made by wirpool and ordered a new defrost heater, the adaptive defrost electronic board, and the defrost thermostat.Did any of these parts prove/test to be bad? One of the new parts may be bad 10659502990I found a tech sheet ( linked here ) that has a process on how to enter the defrost mode. One thing I noticed is that even if i spin the freezer thermostat on the front panel of the fridge all the way counterclockwise to the off position, the compressor won't stop.Definetly double check the wiring/wire job done by the appliance tech! A crossed or shorted wire may do that, a faulty cold/temp control may also do that. One of those controls turns the refrigerator on and off and the other only opens or closes the air damper. |

You'll want to make sure that the evaporator fan is running too.

Is more ice than frost and is totally covered. Fan is working. How do I test the parts?
The wiring seems fine, I removed the cover for the thermostats and they are connected with connectors that go only in one position, no room for mistakes there. |

Is more ice than frost and is totally coveredIce is more the defrost has defrosted and the water couldn't run away fast enough ( slow, restricted defrost drain ) and slowly builds up, not staying in defrost long enough ( starts to defrost and melt but comes out too soon or the heater shuts off too soon ), a system problem can make a ball of ice or 1/2 the evaporator iced over but the other 1/2 is normally bare with no ice or frost. Fan is workingGood. How do I test the parts?Which parts? The wiring seems fine, I removed the cover for the thermostats and they are connected with connectors that go only in one position, no room for mistakes thereNothing pinched or has a screw too close to a wire? jeff. |

Nothing pinched or screws too close to a wire.
Test the parts that I've changed, the defrost heater, the adaptive defrost electronic board and the defrost thermostat. |

I found a tech sheet ( linked
here ) that has a process on how to enter the defrost mode.
If the heater works when entering the defrost mode, the derfost heater and defrost stat are working and the board becomes suspect. If the heater does not come on when we enter a forced defrost, we check the heater and stat first for continuity. One of those controls turns the refrigerator on and off and the other only opens or closes the air damper. The freezer thermo operated the compressor, the fresh food operates the air damper. jeff. |
