I have a Dependable Care top loader Maytag washer that is making a banging noise during the spin cycle. It appears the banging is between the inner and outer
drum during the spin cycle. What could be causing this?

Hi,
I have a Dependable Care top loader Maytag washerModel#? http://www.applianceaid.com/model.html Some model# helps. that is making a banging noise during the spin cycle. It appears the banging is between the inner and outer drum during the spin cycle. What could be causing this?Loose inner wash basket, worn seal/stem allowing the inner basket to move, bad tub bearing ( usually makes other noises than banging ), burnt belt ( noise is more below ), tub cover/crown shifted/broken, off-balanced load. Grab the agitator top and move the assy back and forth forcefully to see if you can recreate the noise. |

Model # is LAT9406AAE. I cannot make the noise by moving the agitator forcefully. I can make the noise by moving the tub cover back and forth forcefully. Does
this mean I need a new tub cover?

LAT9406AAEPlastic style tank cover....this *usually* makes a scrapping noise more often than a banging noise. Definetly check the 3 tub bolts and the bolts at the bottom of the 3 suspension struts.
If they check ok, might be a good idea to remove the tank cover ( it clips into place ) and make sure the balance ring on the top of the wash basket is not loose and try a spin setting with the cover off as a test. jeff. |

The springs and bolts look OK. I removed the top cover, agitator, and balance ring (it is not loose). I still hear the noise with all these off when I manually
move the inner tank back and forth. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the inner tank. Any thought? Also, I am guessing I will need a special spanner
wrench to remove the large nut on the shaft that the agitator attaches to if I need to remove this.

I am guessing I will need a special spanner wrench to remove the large nut on the shaft that the agitator attaches to if I need to remove thisTub nut has a special spanner wrench...can -sometimes- get away with a large flat screwdriver and a hammer. I still hear the noise with all these off when I manually move the inner tank back and forthAnd when running? Under water stem and seal kit and tub bearing kit likely is needed. http://www.applianceaid.com/tub_seal_replacement.html jeff. |

I replaced the tub bearing and stem and seal kit. I think this fixed my original problem. Unfortunately, now I have water dripping from the bottom of the tub
bearing (under the stationary tub). I am guessing this must be coming around the stem seal. I took it back apart, removed the stem seal and cleaned the area
twice and I still have water dripping. Any thoughts? I am guessing water is leaking at the bottom of the stem seal. Is there any sealant I can use to fix this?

No sealant!!
No finger prints on the seal surfaces, should be clean and no oil from finger prints. *If* it still leaks -I'd- return the stem and seal kit and try another......might be mis-machined or such. jeff. |
